Timeframe: 2 Day Install
Farm: A-G Sod Farms – Moreno Valley & Palmdale
Working together on this community project, both A-G Sod Farms from Palmdale and Moreno Valley collaborated on this revitalization for one of The Grove Community Church’s sports field. This multi-use field hosts athletes year-round for the church’s soccer and flag football leagues.
The Grove Community Church offers a community youth soccer league in the fall and a youth flag football league in the spring. Over the past few years, both leagues have become a huge success and continue to grow in popularity. This growth has created the need for more fields.
This two-day installation project consisted of replacing the current natural grass with TifTuf™ Hybrid Bermuda. The newly grassed area can now be used for several soccer fields or football fields during their respective seasons, making more room for competitive play.
To start the project, church volunteers removed the old grass, prepped the soil and adjusted the irrigation systems. Once the field was prepped and ready for grass, approximately 84,000
sq. ft. of TifTuf™ Hybrid Bermuda grown at our Palmdale farm was installed using Big Roll cuts. These cuts allow for fewer seams, resulting in quicker turnaround time making the field available for play within a week. The installation was overseen by our Moreno Valley farm and church volunteers, ensuring the project was completed smoothly and on schedule.
Jeff Couto, the church’s sports pastor, had this to say regarding the project. “A-G Sod demonstrated professionalism and politeness throughout the entire process of the field renovation. The purpose of the field renovation was to increase community involvement in our church’s sports ministry. This season, we will have 1,760 participants in our youth soccer league. Additionally, the transformation of the multipurpose field will enable us to accommodate 800 athletes in our youth flag football program.”
